MQS Concert with Joanna Marie Skillett
Ankawa Foundation were delighted to bring together the talents of the Mar Qardakh School Choir and Joanna Maria Skillett, a leading British soprano, for a concert celebrating the achievements of the school in Ankawa this week.
Joanna spent several hours rehearsing with the enthusiastic choristers whose renditions of ‘Panis Angelicus’ and ‘Swing Low, Sweet Chariot’ were the highlights of the concert.
Joanna’s performance included pieces by Mozart and Puccini, as well as more modern pieces such as ‘The Prayer’ and even Andrew Lloyd Webber. A dazzling finale of ‘I could have danced all night’ brought the evening to a wonderful close.
We were thrilled by the huge turnout of MQS parents, families, staff and members of the community at the hall of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. This gave AF the opportunity to share with the MQS family some of the fantastic headlines from our inspection of MQS and to encourage them in their hard work.
We are very grateful to the Parish Priest and the staff of the Archdiocese for supporting us, and Carolen Kossa for translating so effortlessly. We were also touched that Mr Fahmi, the Diocesan Education Director, came to support and spoke so well at the end.
Brava to Joanna and to the MQS choir!
