Another winter without a home
Last year we ran a clothing drive to help refugees and IDPs desperately seeking shelter from the cold as winter arrived in northern Iraq. We had hoped it would be a one off event.
Now, as one year turns into year two, we are repeating the exercise; a situation we had hoped would not be the case. Whilst so much has changed, with the refugee crisis more prevalent in the news, for many in the centres in Ankawa life is on standstill.
When asking what we can do to help, one request was quite a surprise – please send clothes for the children. Mums, continuing with the struggle to clothe growning children, are in need of good quality, warm winter clothes. Last year’s response was so successful, we were asked to repeat the drive, with a focus on children’s clothes. We were more than happy to do so.
The response from people has been fantastic. Working with schools, businesses, churches and scout groups we have once again been able to dispatch a ton of clothes to Iraq. This much-needed winter clothing will go directly to help children in centres and orphanages in Ankawa, keeping them warm and dry over the next few months.
Quite simply, we are very grateful. Thank you to everyone who has given so much to help. We will keep people updated with the delivery – expected in Ankawa in time for Christmas.
