Teacher Training Course 2020

Watch this video for more info:

Last year, we organised professional training for twenty five Iraqi teachers in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan, as part of our support of the community of Ankawa.

With our team of expert UK teachers, we ran courses in everything from English as an Additional Language to SEN provision, for teachers just entering the profession, to those with many years of experience.

The training course, running throughout July 2019, culminated in the Ankawa Education Conference at the Catholic University of Erbil, where each teacher presented on one aspect of educational theory that they were researching. When we returned in October to assess the school, there was evidence of clear benefit to the students’ learning from the summer course.

This year, we have been invited back again for July 2020 and we are looking for volunteers!

We are looking for primary and secondary teachers, from teachers in management roles and none. If you have EAL or IB skills, then that is a bonus but not necessary. All we ask is that you have the relevant experience to lead sessions with teachers who are keen to learn but who have little access to professional development opportunities. These schools do not need money; they need people who have expertise and who are willing to share this with them.

If you can come for two of three weeks, we can commit to showing you round a fascinating city, to introducing you to an ancient culture, to helping you with every step from booking tickets to picking you up from the airport, even to fending off the offers of Five Star Chicken Kebab.

A list of FAQs is available here. Please contact us directly if you have other questions not listed; we are always delighted to talk to more people about Ankawa.

To apply, please send an email to tom@barfieldgrainger.com, explaining your relevant experience, what attracts you to the trip and what dates you would available.

We need volunteers!
